IM Nutrition Plan

This isn't so much an update as a question for my fellow triathletes...

For those of you who are training/have trained for Ironman, can you please share your race nutrition plan? I'm still figuring out what to eat and when and would love some ideas.

Please post in comments or send me an email. I know everyone is different, but I just need ideas on where to start.

Thanks!

  2. CAT -

This was my plan for my 120 ride just a month ago - it worked for me and I am pretty much going with this for RACE DAY. Calorie-wise I didn't really need a lot of real food because of the Infinit but it felt good to pop something in my mouth every 30-40 minutes and I really looked forward to the PB & J because that is one of my favorite foods and it is easy on my tummy.

1 bottle custom Infit per 1.5 hours (5 bottles) (232 cal/420 electrolytes - per bottle)
1 bottle Water (sip as desired) - 2 bottles
1 banana - at top of 1st hour in (half per 30 minutes) (90 calories)
1 power bar - bite every 20 minutes until gone (280 calories)
    1 PB&J uncrustable sandwich - 2 sandwiches (mile 40 & 80)
    1 GU - Mile 105

I also had a few GUs and ClifBlocks with me - just in case I wanted something else.

When I run, I stick to 1 bottle of Infinit and 1 bottle of Water with 1 GU every hour and I drink the Inifit or Water on an as needed basis depending on what I seem to be craving. So for the full marathon I bring one 20 oz bottle of infinit - drink water on the course - carry 3 GUs (plain flavor) for the first 13 miles and then put another 20 oz bottle of Infinit in my special needs bag for the second 13.1 - along with 3 more GUs and some Pringles (as a treat!) - the rest I will get from the aid stations - if I feel like I need something different.

    Hope this helps!
